Regular visitors to our Newtownards practice will have heard of our plans over the last 10 years to refurbish and extend into next door which was previously a newsagents.

Mackey Opticians moved into 62 High Street over 40 years ago from Pound Street - formerly Mr Bailie's Opticians - and had the "pink" refit in 1994. With the increase in the number of spectacle frames displayed - with designer names like RayBan, Oakley and Tom Ford - we knew we needed more space. The new practice allows us to increase our number of eye examination rooms giving more space for our OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and other specialised equipment.

Mackey Opticians have also started offering Hearing Care again after a 20 year gap - we have been seeking a similar professional company to ourselves and believe we have found the perfect match in the Hearing Care partnership - another independent family owned business. The extended practice will allow us the room to offer a dedicated space for hearing assessments and other services.

Unfortunately this means that our practice has to close - we hope to be reopening in 8 weeks at the start of October 2022. The Newtownards team - Amanda McGimpsey, Debbie and Alison - have relocated temporarily to our Bangor practice (beside the Bangor Main Street Post Office) - and will be offering eye examinations etc from there. You can phone them at 02891452828 or the old Newtownards number 02891812046 should be redirected to Bangor. Any collections of glasses or contact lenses will be provided from there until we reopen.

If you have any queries please call us or email us at bangor@mackeyopticians.com.

You can also book an eye examination online at Bangor at "Welcome | Click2Date". Mackey
